As a result, you accumulated a whole bunch of small pieces of paper, restaurant receipts and bank card bills somewhere, in a cardboard box or at the bottom of your wallet... And generally you postponed sending these cumbersome documents to your accountant until the next day, at the risk of losing a good part of them over time.

Since March 2017, the tax authorities have accepted that if you digitise your customer and supplier invoices, you do not have to keep a paper copy. However,URSSAF was still dragging its feet when it came to expense receipts. Indeed, if you were unable to present the originals of your receipts, URSSAF could reclassify these expenses as benefits in kind. And therefore apply employer and employee charges.

However, only a few weeks ago the situation changed. Following a decree published at the end of May 2019, the obligation to keep your paper documents has officially been abolished. So since 1 July 2019 you can throw away your receipts if they have been correctly scanned.

Please note that this does not apply to your expense claims before this date. And in any case, the administration must be able to check who took the photo, when and whether any subsequent changes have been made, etc. In short, the scan must be certified by a trusted third party and kept for at least 6 years.
